🦄 This week we’re most excited about:

HQ: Barcelona, Spain

Bravo Studio is a design-first, no-code tool, which allows you to turn your app designs and prototypes into real publishable mobile apps (both iOS and Android). You can use Bravo Studio to build even complex apps by connecting your design to external tools via APIs.

😟 Traditional application programming is expensive, including custom builds and the time it takes professional developers to hammer them out.

Shelling out several thousands of dollars, for instance, $30 to $50K, to develop a mobile app may not be much of a problem for a large company, but when it is a start-up with limited capital, that much money can end up being a drain.

Given that there are >8.93 million mobile apps out there, it may seem surprising that developing one is so expensive. However, the scarcity of skilled developers and the complexity of building a robust, high-functioning app serve to rack up the hourly developer rates.

🤩 Bravo Studio uses a no-code approach to allow a user to create and maintain a native mobile application using an existing design, and uses their own or third-party APIs to deliver functionality. This enables businesses to unlock their mobile channel without huge time or cost investment (some estimates say that no-code app builders can reduce the cost by up to 74 percent.)

Founder(s) background: ex-CEO @ Path Intelligence, ex-CTO @ Typeform

Market: By 2030, the global low-code/no-code development platform market is expected to produce $187 billion in revenue. It will account for more than 65% of application development activity by 2024.

Metrics: >96,000 signed up users, >1,500 apps published in the app stores

Kern AI is a open-source data-centric IDE for NLP.

As artificial intelligence (AI) has become more prevalent, one segment has become increasingly important: natural language processing (NLP). From 2020 to 2021, 60% of tech leaders increased their NLP budgets by at least 10%, with almost a fifth of them doubling it. While the relevance of the technology has exploded, it has remained somewhat inaccessible.

😟 Today, enterprise data scientists and domain experts spend over 80 percent of AI development time gathering, organizing, and manually labeling the training data used to train machine learning models (Cognilytica 2020 report).

The ‘training data bottleneck’ is a primary reason a vast majority of AI projects never make it into production.

🤩 Kern AI’s offering is designed to eliminate such bottlenecks with a data-centric AI platform to label training data programmatically.

Founder(s) background: Hasso Plattner Institute & GAMBIT Consulting alumni, ex-Founders @ path2.ai

Market: If you focus specifically on the market for IDEs, the market is estimated to grow from $3 billion in 2018 to $23+ billion by 2029. That’s one initial gauge for the size of Kern AI’s market.

Metrics: Star-961, Fork-31 (GitHub)
